Come to the Chestertown Library and see the 7-12 student artwork. There is a wide variety of work (drawings, paintings, photography, pottery, etc.) It will be worth your while. We have many talented students at North Warren!

24 Hours- A Photographic Interpretation of Life in the Adirondacks

If you love photography or just love the Adirondacks and are a student in grades 9-12 you should take a look at this contest!

The contest is through the Lake Placid Institute for the Arts and Humanities. They are looking for photographs taken through the 24 hours of a day. Photos must be taken within the Adirondack Park, from April 15, 2011 through April 15, 2012. Along with the photograph you must write an essay (50-150 words) describing when, where and why you chose to photograph that particular scene or subject.

NYSATA Conference

I attended the NYSATA art conference over the weekend. It was held in Tarrytown, NY. It was an amazing and educational experience. I was able to meet and talk with art teachers from all over New York State. I also attended workshops for 2 whole days. They were very informative! I learned a variety of things from new lesson ideas to curriculum and portfolio guidelines. I will certainly go again.

In addition to all the workshops and keynote speakers, there was a student art show! I brought artwork from a variety of my classes. Mrs. Brown also brought work to display for the elementary students. I have photos of both displays. The photo on the left is my display. There are two Studio in Art projects, a 7th Grade project, and a Studio in Drawing & Painting project on the display. The one to the right is Mrs. Brown’s Elementary students’ artwork.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Students in Studio in Drawing & Painting and Advanced Drawing are carving pumpkins for the Pug Parade this Sunday. Thanks to the help of the NW Chamber of Commerce for donating the pumpkins.

Photography Art Exhibit

The third and final show of our The Lake Placid Institute for the Arts Visual Arts program, ‘24 Hours: A Photographic Interpretation of Life in the Adirondacks,’ is currently at the Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake, through October 27, 2011. Free Event!

Students in Studio in Art class went outside to the school garden and did a contour line drawing of a sunflower. Students then drew a contour line around the negative space of the flower and repeated drawing lines until they ran out of space.

K-12 Student Art Show

I would like to thank everyone who helped make the art show possible! It was a huge success! Thanks to all community members, parents, students, and teachers that attended the reception or just went to see the show. Mrs. Brown and I are very excited to have the K-12 student art show return to North Warren as an annual event. See everyone again next year.
